QUESTION: Councillor E. Higgins
To ask the Manager for a detailed report on the South Dublin County Volunteer Centre, how the Council supports them, what organisations they support in Lucan and Palmerston and how community groups can utilise this facility?
REPLY:
South Dublin County Council provides €20,000 of funding assistance per annum via the Community Services Department to assist the Volunteer Centre with its running and programme costs. The Volunteer Centre provides direct assistance to both community groups/organisations and members of the public wishing to engage in volunteering opportunities throughout the County. The Volunteer Centre is established as a Company Limited by Guarantee and the Community Services Department has a representative appointed to the Board of Directors of the Company.
The Volunteer Centre provides support and advice to a number of community groups/organisations that are located geographically in the Lucan and Palmerston areas directly (Listed below) but also provides this support and assistance to a number of Countywide and National Organisations that while not directly located in the areas are active in various ways in both area i.e. Clondalkin Partnership, the FAI, etc.
