COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, November 22, 2011
QUESTION NO. 5
QUESTION: Councillor E. Higgins
To ask the Manager for a report on the clean up after this year's Halloween activities in Lucan and Palmerston?
REPLY:
The total number of bonfires recorded to date in the County in 2011 was 351. This represents a slight increase (2.3%) on the 2010 figure where 343 bonfires took place.
The mapping of the bonfires commenced on 1st November and is still underway. When the mapping exercise has been completed, the bonfire details will be available on an Electoral Area basis and will be provided to the Members.
For health and safety reasons, the general cleanup of bonfire material was deferred until Monday 7th November, after the schools had re-opened, in order to minimise potential conflicts between local youths and council staff. The clean up operation is ongoing and is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
