QUESTION NO. 1

QUESTION: Councillor C. Bond

"To ask the Manager to  please provide a report on the cost of cleaning up after bonfires in both Tallaght electoral areas?"

REPLY:

The number of bonfires estimated this year is similar to last year 2010 when there were 343 bonfires in the County – figures captured to date show a figure of 351 for 2011. This is a marginal increase – 2.3% on last year.

The mapping of the bonfires commenced on 1st November and is still underway. When the mapping exercise has been completed, the bonfire details will be available on an Electoral Area basis and will be provided to the Members.  For health and safety reasons, the general cleanup of bonfire material was defferred until Monday 7th November, after the schools had re-opened, in order to minimise potential conflicts between local youths and council staff.  The clean up operation is ongoing and is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
