QUESTION NO. 12

QUESTION: Councillor M. McDonagh

To ask the Manager for a report into the causes of flooding in nos 15 to 33 Lealand Drive (odd nos only) on Monday 24th October and to establish whether the level of flooding experienced was caused by inadequate drainage provision and to recommend remedial action on the drainage system to prevent future floods?

REPLY:

The cause of the flooding of the houses from No. 15 to 33 (odd) Lealand Drive was the intensity of rain that fell during the day of the 24th of October 2011 with approximately 90mm of rain falling during this day roughly equivalent to a month's rain for October usually.  It did not help that these houses are in a hollow with both the road and green area around them higher than their floor levels. The Drainage Section will liaise with the Road's Section and have additional road gullys installed along the front of Nos 15 to 33 (odd) Lealand Drive.
