MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)

Monday, November 21, 2011

MOTION NO. 3

MOTION: Councillor M. Corr

That the Manager states clearly and categorically how groups in the West Tallaght RAPID areas who wish to engage with and carry out voluntary work under the Social Credit Scheme will receive support in the form of necessary equipment and manpower assistance.

REPORT:

The Social Credits System rewards community groups, youth groups, resident associations and schools who improve their environment by cleaning up, planting and maintaining areas and encourages them to continue taking positive sustainable actions within their community. The programme aspires to motivate, assist and reward groups who may not be involved in the enhancement of their local area, to get involved and to take ownership of their area. This twelve month pilot programme commenced in February 2011 and is operational in the South Dublin County Council functional area.

Applicants can apply online at www.socialcredits.ie and also obtain information on the FAQ menu tab. Applicants must state in their application:

·        The type of action they are carrying out within their community

·        Detail what assistance and materials, if necessary, are required to carryout the action

·        The reward for their group

Applications are reviewed and assessed by an Evaluation Committee which has representatives from each department and are approved or declined on the basis of suitability, budgetary constraints and availability of Council’s resources. When a reward is not granted, the applicant is contacted to negotiate an alternative reward.

To date 6 applications have been received from the West Tallaght RAPID area with 2 applicants having received their requested rewards.
