QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney
To ask the Manager, in the wake of the Priory Hall scandal in the Dublin City Council area, to confirm the fire safety enforcement regime on all multi-unit developments (MUD's) completed in the past five years in the area of South Dublin County, to report on any action taken by SDCC on MUD's with regard to fire safety, and to outline any outstanding fire safety inspections, or fire safety-related remedial works or documentation requested in any MUD in the SDCC area?
REPLY:
Dublin Fire Brigade assesses and makes recommendations on fire safety certificate applications to SDCC. Any action taken by Dublin Fire Brigade is taken under the Fire Services Acts 1981 and 2003. Dublin Fire Brigade is the Fire Authority for Dublin City and the three County Local Authorities and has carried out 37 inspections on residential apartment buildings in SDCC administrative area since 2007.
1 High Court Order was sought and granted, 3 Fire Safety Notices were served, 2 prosecutions were recommended for non-compliance with a Fire Safety Notice, 1 risk assessment was sought and 37 letters were issued.
On 4 occasions advice was given to owner / occupiers in relation to fire safety management in the building.
