MOTION NO. 10

MOTION: Councillor P. Cosgrave

Cathaoirleach's Business

"That the Manager give a report on the pay parking at Rathfarnham Village and discuss could there be some changes made to pay parking in the village under the review of pay parking.

  1. Could a fifteen minute grace be given to shoppers dropping items or collecting items?
  2. Could the five loading bays at the new bicycle shop be better sign posted and their time increased.
  3. Could the loading bays be used by shoppers to drop items or collect items?"

REPORT:

A number of reviews have been carried out of the Pay and Display parking arrangements in Rathfarnham Village since the last changes were introduced and a number of minor modifcations to layout and signage were completed. In the interests of the promotion of the business community in the Village and following consultation with business interests in the Village, a significant change was made to the parking tariffs in Village Court to accommodate Saturday shoppers. Overall it is considered that the Pay and Display parking arrangements in Rathfarnham Village are working satisfactorily.

In relation to the specific points made in the Motion, the following is the position:

  1. A ten minute grace period already operates in the Village and this period is considered more than adequate for all delivery and collection visits which by their nature should be brief.
  2. A further examination of these loading bays will be carried out to determine if any additional signage is required. It was noted on a recent visit that one sign has been rotated and was no longer visible.
  3. The loading bays are provided to faciliate commercial deliveries and collections. It is not considered appropriate that non commercial use of them be made.
