QUESTION NO. 12
QUESTION: Councillor E. Tuffy
To ask the Manager if he will arrange for an inspection of the time periods allowed for traffic going through the Kennelsfort Road/N4 Junction, in particular if he will assess if sufficient time is allowed for vehicles crossing the N4 to and from Palmerston Village, and if he will also clarify the position regarding vehicles coming along the N4 from the Lucan direction, and doing a U-Turn, because they have missed or been confused by signage at the N4/M50 roundabout?
REPLY:
The junction in question has varying maximum green times allocated to traffic on each approach dependent upon time of day and also upon traffic conditions. The times are set so as to try and maintain the maximum flow of traffic through the junction without placing undue delays upon any approach. Due regard must also be had to the need to prevent, as far as possible, traffic queuing on the M50 exit ramps. The junction is operating at optimum operational capacity and there is currently no scope to allocate any significant further green time to any approach without having severely adverse effects on the other approaches.
The city bound u-turn movement at Kennelsfort Road is not currently banned and there are no proposals at present to prohibit this movement.
