QUESTION NO. 8
QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle
To ask the Manager to provide an update on the pressing need to provide safe pedestrian crossing points on both Fonthill Road and Bothair an Life, close to the St. Loman's Road junction, so as to improve safety for pedestrians seeking to walk between nearby areas of Lucan and Liffey Valley town centre and in particular for residents of St. Edmunds seeking to walk safely to and from the bus-stops on the N4 corridor?
REPLY:
Several pedestrian crossing schemes were developed for the Fonthill Road/Bothair an Life junction and they were subject to the requirements of the Metro West alignment which has now been deferred by Government. The Council does not have the resources to implement these proposals. Plans are now in development for this junction in line with transport priorities that can avail of NTA funding. The priorities include pedestrian and cyclist priority, public transport and safety. It is currently proposed to develop the junction with signal control in order to deliver these priorities with the appropriate vehicular capacity.
