MOTION: Councillor C. King
That this Committee calls on the Community Department to contact NABCO in relation to the so called 'Community Facility' on Donomore Park which has lay vacant for almost a decade despite ongoing efforts by Community Groups to view the facility to enable them to utilise the building. That this contact be used as a last effort to encourage NABCO to allow local groups access to the building which has never happened despite the buildings original purpose and status.
REPORT:
In July 2010, the Council made a decision to grant permission to NABCO for a development under Reg Ref SD10A/0105, comprising the demolition of existing two storey community building and construction of 2 no. buildings comprising a 2 storey, detached 3 bedroom dwelling (92sq.m.) and a 2 storey, 3 bedroom dwelling (103sq.m.) with integrated ground floor community room (36.5sq.m.).
NABCO in response to previous enquiries told us that "discussions were ongoing with local and community groups to determine a programme for the best use of the facility."
The Community Services Department has since contacted NABCO to see what progress has been made, and to offer whatever assistance may be required to bring this matter to a positive resolution. NABCO have told the Council that they do not habve the funds required to open and operate the building.
In the circumstances, the Community Services Department has asked to meet with NABCO to discuss the matter further.
The members will be informed of the outcome of the meeting.
