MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)

QUESTION NO. 9

QUESTION: Councillor M. Duff

"To ask the Manager to make a report detailing the location and frequency of the Councils Housing Estate Management Team clinics and if he will consider a clinic for the greater Tymon area?"

REPLY:

The Council operates five Housing Clinics in the Tallaght area and three in other areas of the County in conjunction with the Gardai. Apart from the Clinics there are several other means by which members of the public can report incidents of anti-social behaviour as follows;

(a) By calling the confidential freephone number - 1800-200245

(b) By telephoning the Council's main switchboard at phone no 4149000 and speaking to a member of the Estate Management Team.

(c) By calling in person to the Customer Care Counter at County Hall, Tallaght or Clondalkin Civic Offices

(d) Through the Customer Care facility on the Council website at WWW.SDCC.ie

(e) By speaking in person or by phone to any member of the Estate Management Team for the Tymon area who are on -site every day and are well known to all Community Representatives.

The Council, hosts Housing Clinics at the following locations in the County Area.  One of the perceived weaknesses of the Clinics is that some residents are reluctant to visit a Clinic in their own area due to fear or intimidation.  Lately the Council has been advising tenants to visit any of the existing Clinics for the purpose of making a complaint.

Rathfarnaham Whitechurch Community Centre First Thursday of the month 11am – 12noon

The provision of this service places a high demand on scarce staff resources and is geared towards addressing the issue of anti social behaviour in the areas of greatest need.  Anti Social Behaviour in the social housing estates in the Tymon area is not a major problem and accordingly it is not proposed to establish an additional Housing Clinic in this area.

However a meeting between the community representatives of the area and the Council’s Estate Management team will be convened with a view to ensuring all are aware of the ways and means of passing information to the Council / Gardai and that proper protocols are in place for a through flow of any relevant information
