MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

MOTION NO. 6

MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

That the Lucan Area Committee notes that the “Meet Your Politicians” event held in County Hall on 27th September as part of Active Citizenship Week, was well attended by representatives of community organisations and individuals from many parts of the County, especially the Clondalkin and Tallaght Central and South Electoral Areas, and that participants, including councillors,  engaged in forthright and interesting exchanges on a wide range of issues and problems, about which residents look to the Council and councillors for actions and measures. The Committee notes however, that the attendance from the Lucan Electoral Area was disappointingly low: 2 residents, both from Palmerstown, 1 community worker and 3 councillors. The Committee therefore requests the Manager, in collaboration with the CPLN Partnership, to organise a similar “ Meet the Politicians/Councillors” event for a date in January 2012 to be held in the Lucan Electoral Area, e.g. in Ballyowen Castle Community Centre, and to promote appropriately amongst community organisations and the public.

REPORT:

The event held on 27th September was one of many events held during Active Citizenship Week 2011.

This event was organised by ACT (Active Citizenship Together) which has organised similar events in previous years and prior to local and general elections.

If the Committee agrees that a meeting in Lucan Electoral Area would be useful,  the Council will make contact with ACT and let them know of the Committee's request.
