MOTION NO. 8
MOTION: Councillor T. Delaney
That this Committee strongly recommends a form of action plan to address works on the Nangor Road (from the Tower Road to the Fonthill Road junctions) as follows-
A thorough litter pick followed by including this stretch on a regular routine cleaning schedule.
REPORT:
The operations crew will be requested to undertake scuffling of the weeds along the footpath to remove the growth and to undertake litter picking when required. The contractor, Oxigen Environmental sweeps the Nangor Road once a month. The Cleansing Unit of the Council will assign a crew to complete a weekly litter pick of this area. This should improve the litter situation, particularly on the Old Nangor Road. As part of our ongoing litter bin installation programme the Council are also committed to installing a new litter bin at the community centre, and this will be completed as soon as possible.
The Council's policy on provision of new of litter bins in the area is in accordance with standard procedure as follows: the request for additional litter bins will be examined by the Cleansing Engineer based on reports from the local Litter Warden and the Cleansing Foreman having regard for footfall and litter arising in the area, proximity to litter generators (e.g. shops, schools etc.), as well as route capacity, staffing and litter bin coverage in the area.
The pumps will be examined by the Architect's Department to enable a restoration project to be designed and costed in the coming weeks.
