SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)

MOTION NO. 11
MOTION: Councillor M. Duff
Cathaoirleach's Business:
That this committee calls on the Manager to acknowledge the great efforts of the Transition Year students of Tallaght Community School, who carried out a litter pick in the Balrothery/ Castle and Tymon area on National Volunteer Day, Friday 30th September and encourage other Community Schools to particapate in future events.
REPORT:
Tallaght Community School is taking part in the Green School programme which is an international environmental education programme, environmental management system and award scheme that promotes and acknowledges long-term, whole school action for the environment. Schools that have successfully completed all the elements of each theme (there five themes 1. Litter & Waste, 2. Energy, 3. Water, 4. Travel, 5. Biodiversity) of the programme are awarded the ‘Green-Flag’.
Tallaght Community School has received their first green flag which focuses on Litter & Waste. It is a positive action to see Tallaght Community School carrying this environmental awareness beyond the school and into the community and we would like to acknowledge this action carried out on National Volunteer Day, and congratulate the school. The Environmental Awareness section provides on-going support to all schools in the County regarding the Green School programme, encouraging all schools on a continual basis to become involved in anti-litter & environmental initiatives.
