COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO.5
MOTION: Councillor J. Lahart
"That the Manager inspect the open space adjacent to 36 Orlagh Grange with a view to carrying out the following:-
This area has been notified to the Council as a source of rat infestation.
To clear up and tidy the weeded area of overgrown vegetation.
To remove all litter which is considerable.
To liaise with neighbouring houses regarding the problem of rats which has been notified to the Council's Parks department in August."
REPORT:
The area referred to has a dense and particularly wide shrubbery adjacent to it. It is considered that it will be necessary to reduce the width of this shrubbery and it will be included for consideration in the 2011/2012 Arboricultural Works Programme. In the meantime the litter will be removed.
In relation to the alleged rat infestation it is the experience of the Council that this issue arises primarily due to the careless disposal of litter including food waste by passing pedestrians or that is deliberately dumped there. There is some evidence of dumping of both litter and garden waste in the shrubbery area that could contribute to the alleged rat infestation.
The Council will organise the laying of suitable bait in the area, if considered necessary.
