QUESTION: Councillor C. Bond

To ask that the Manager report on the effectiveness of the use of CCTV to monitor incidents of illegal dumping, that the Manager if possible provide details of locations of blackspots that are being considered for CCTV installation?

REPLY:

Under the Public Realm initiative, a number of sites were identified where it was considered an on-going problem of illegal dumping could be resolved, where enforcement mechanisms could be applied and where CCTV cameras were necessary to support effective enforcement. The sites were technically surveyed in consultation CCTV contractors to determine their suitability (or otherwise) for CCTV cameras. The survey identified the following sites as being suitable for CCTV monitoring:

In addition a rapid deployment camera was purchased to be used in additional locations were possible while new monitoring equipment and facilities were included in this initiative and the programme includes a maintenance arrangement for the equipment and movement of the rapid deployment camera.  The cost of this is in the region of €220,000 and the installations are almost complete.

Comprehensive monitoring of and reporting on incidents arising will be put in place to ensure that the CCTV capabilities are utilised to maximum effect.
