Full updates on the work placement programmes are included in the Monthly report to the CPG on the Business Sustainability & Development Programme under Outcome 7. These reports are made available to all members through CMAS here.

The Council have been actively involved in work placement schemes as outlined below.

Redundant Apprentices Scheme

Carpentry & Joinery – Phase 7 – 2 Placements commenced for a period of 12 weeks both have finished their placements and one has availed of a further 20 weeks unpaid placement to fully complete the terms of apprenticeship

Carpentry & Joinery – Phase 5 – 3 Placements underway for a period of 26 weeks

Plumber – Phase 5 – 5 Placements underway for a period of 26 weeks

Bricklayer/ Stonemason Phase 5 – 6 Placements underway for a period of 26 weeks

Motor Mechanic – Phase 7 –  1 Placement was completed over a period of 12 weeks

Motor Mechanic – Phase 5 – 1 Placement commenced for a period of 12 weeks

Plasterer – Phase 7 – 2 Placements were completed over a period of 12 weeks

Painter – Phase 5 – 1 Placement commenced for a period of 26 weeks

Placements are being continued on a rolling basis with a new batch of placements being offered when the first batches are coming up to completion date. FAS have been requested to furnish lists of redundant Phase 5 apprentices to enable replacements for those finishing Phase 7 to recommence. Information on numbers available is now being collated centrally through the LGMA.We have received approval from FAS to facilitate existing Phase 5 placements listed above with their final Phase 7 training.

FAS have recently rectified the anomaly in the system which meant that some of the apprentices who completed Phase 7 and require a number of added weeks to attain full certification were in difficulty. This is being overcome through a final examination being undertaken and FAS providing inhouse classroom based training.
