MOTION: Councillor J. Lahart, Councillor J. Hannon, Councillor E. Walsh 2009, Councillor T. Gilligan

That the Council considers the merits of pilotting a roof/rain water harvesting project in the county utilising housing from the Social Housing Stock for this purpose

REPORT:

There are rain water containers available on the market for approximately €60 each.  These are connected to the downpipe from the gutters.  These containers include a connecting kit, which when the container is full will allow the surplus water to drain off into the surface water drain.  The average container contains approximately 210 litres. 

The total cost of supplying these to the current Social Housing Stock would be in the region of €540,000 excluding labour. There are no provisions in the current budget to facilitate the proposal.
