MOTION NO.12
MOTION: Councillor T. Gilligan
That this Committee requests the Manager to arrange the development of a Tone Zone in the Clondalkin Community Centre Area, as in other Councils, for residents/elderly or otherwise wishing to get in shape. The Tone Zone could come under the remit of the Clondalkin Leisure Centre. Can the Manager talk with the CLC Manager about this proposal?
REPORT:
The development of a Tone Zone area in the vicinity of the Leisure Centre in Clondalkin has recently been considered in consultation with the Centre Manager. Ordinarily the development of a Tone Zone for use by adults and elderly residents would be considered a very positive addition to the facilities provided for visitors to the Centre and it's environs. However, notwithstanding the current lack of the necessary funds, it is felt that the development of such a facility could conflict to some extent with the usage of the existing indoor Sports and Gym facilities, located within the Centre, particularly during the summer months.
Should funds become available in the future, it is therefore considered more appropriate that a Tone Zone be located in the main part of Corkagh Park, in the vicinity of the children's playground, where the footfall is high, and where there is unlikely to be any adverse impact on the commercial viability of existing businesses.
