MOTION: Councillor G. O'Connell

Cathaoirleach's Business 

That the Manager bring forward a report on the working and effectiveness of the 3 ton limit restriction that is in force on roads within this Committee's electoral area and to include proposals on how the objective of making such roads and neighbourhoods healthy, safe and environmentally satisfactory for local resident can be achieved and that a discussion take place on the matter.

REPORT:

If the motion is passed the necessary report will be prepared in consultation with the environmental health agencies.  It should be noted that the provision of a 3 ton weight limit of itself will reduce the amount of heavy traffic through an area and the subsequent reduction in traffic noise and air pollution will enhance the environment. The implementation of the noise action plan in the greater Dublin area will also be of great benefit here and the next phase of its implementation is currently being undertaken by the Environment Health Officers on behalf of the Dublin Local Authorities.
