QUESTION NO. 3

QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

To ask the Manager for a detailed update on the proposed Permeability Project in the Griffeen area including my long-standing request for a signalised pedestrian crossing on Griffeen Avenue outside Oldbridge Estate?

REPLY:

The Permeability Projects were submitted for funding to the NTA earlier this year by the Planning Department that encourage walking and cycling to local centres by providing direct routes. 5 No. projects have had funding agreed and are to be completed before the end of the year. The Planning Department’s scheme of permeability projects was presented to the Lucan Area Committee Meeting of the 28th June 2011 and a Lucan Councillor Briefing Meeting of the 13th July 2011. At the Briefing Meeting it was agreed that the Lucan Councillors generally support the crossings proposed for Griffeen Avenue; however, concern was expressed regarding the public opinion of a new link proposed into the Moy Glas area.  Lucan Councillors were supportive of a consultative leaflet drop which will be circulated to the Councillors at the same time as the distribution to the households in the Moy Glas area. The leaflet will also be sent to the Moy Glas residents association. Consultation leaflets are currently being prepared for Moy Glas estate.  An inter-departmental steering group has been set up to co-ordinate decision making and construction issues internally between the Planning, Roads and Parks Departments. This group meets on a fortnightly basis. The Park,s Department will assist in the construction phase of works where possible.
