COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)

QUESTION NO. 2
QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney
"To ask the Manager to report on access for youth organisations in the Greenhills and Dublin 12 area of SDCC to a youth worker to assist with events and activities?"
REPLY:
Youth Activity and events are generally organised through Catholic Youth Care and Foroige. Both organisations work in the County.
South Dublin County Council assists and supports both organisations by encouraging local community centres to offer space at competitive rates to these organisations. The Coomunity Workers Team also sit as board members in each community centre and advise and assist in the organisation of all the events and activities that take place in the centres.
Comhairle na nóg works with local schools and youth services by inviting young people to become members and to work with the committee to lobby for youth services in their communities. The Comhairle na nóg AGM will take place on October 26th in Tallaght Stadium. Schools and youth services in the area will be contacted shortly with an invitation to send some of their young people to the AGM.
In addition, the Council, through its Community Team and very often in partnership with other organisations, is directly involved with the organisation of youth activities and events, particularly in the Summer months. These activities include Summer camps, Family Days, Play Days, village festivals, St. Patrick's Day celebrations and a host of other such activities.
The Council also employs Sports Officers who link directly with clubs and groups across the County to assist and involve young people in particpating in sports activities. The Sports Officers work is augmented by four F.A.I. Development Officers who coach and organise football through schools, clubs and associations.
The Council's Youth Arts Co-ordinator has a very wide-ranging programme of events and activities and has established and engaged with a so many young people across the County. These include dance groups, young filmakers, drama groups and musicians of all genres.
