MOTION NO. 2

MOTION: Councillor C. Jones

That this Committee acknowledges the frustration experienced by the community in Adamstown and Adamstown Community College because of the lack of a school / community sports hall and that the Manager will report on the up to date situation.

REPORT:

Multilateral discussions are ongoing between South Dublin County Council, the Adamstown Developers and the Department of Education and Skills in relation to the delivery of a Sports Hall.  In the interim the VEC will continue its temporary use of the St John the Evangelist National School GP hall.  The Adamstown playing pitches, located adjacent to the Park & Ride facility are also available to the school.

It is noteworthy that SDCC and the Adamstown Developers have worked closely with the Department of Education and Skills in recent months, to make a suitable site available to accommodate a temporary 16 classroom primary school for Esker Educate Together NS for a period of 3 years and to grant permission for the school building.  The temporary school is now under construction.
