QUESTION NO. 6

QUESTION: Councillor M. Corr

"To ask the Manager to address the ongoing problem of fly-tipping and dumping on Killinarden Lane by introducing portable CCTV cameras in order to ensure that persons carrying out the dumping can be prosecuted by fine or otherwise?"

REPLY:

There are no plans to install portable CCTV on Killinarden Lane in the current year due to budgetary constraints. Factors such as the suitability of the area, the likelihood of obtaining suitable evidence, the cost of the equipment and whether the area can be monitored effectively will have to be considered.

The area in question is known to the local litter warden as an illegal dumping blackspot and consequently, it is regularly patrolled and  dumped waste is searched for evidence to facilitate the prosecution of the individuals responsible.

The site is patrolled and cleaned as often as current resources allow.
