MOTION NO.  5

MOTION: Councillor M. Corr

That the Manager reviews without delay the serious safety issue posed to pedestrians attempting to cross the N81 between the junctions at the Killinarden Road (Jobstown House) and the Outer Ring Road and to report back to this committee with a headed item for October outlining plans to address this deficit in pedestrian access in this area.

REPORT:

The Tallaght Quality Bus Corridor (QBC) Enhancements Scheme incorporating a new pedestrian facility at the location identified was put out for tender by the Council during the summer . However the scheme was deferred by the National Transport Authority (NTA) in the light of Network Direct proposals from Bus Atha Cliath for the area.

The Council does not have the resources to carry out any portion of the scheme itself however the matter is being discussed with the NTA with a view to implementing certain sections of the scheme that are important to enhance the safety of pedestraians along the route.  A Headed Item outlining what can be achieved will be brought to the next Meeting of the Area Committee as requested.
