MOTION NO. 12

MOTION: Councillor C. Bond

That this council develops a strategy for supporting the co-operative sector, such a strategy will be incorporated into the councils plan for supporting businesses.

REPORT:

The Councils Business Development & Sustainability programme identifies 8 outcomes supporting business and employment in South Dublin County. The programme is inter agency and function. The aims are to sustain existing business and employment and foster new opportunities. These opportunities can and will include co-operative type activity. Examples are the "community of practice" approach through the IEN and the Connect project and the collective opportunities envisaged in the Creative Village outcome in the programme, The concept of individuals and groups combining their resources for maximum benefit is at the core of the programme and will continue to be developed as the process towards achieving the 8 outcomes is rolled out.
