MEETING OF SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

MOTION NO. 2
MOTION: Councillor C. Jones
MAYOR'S BUSINESS (2)
That South Dublin County Council will play a role to support citizens who are caring for relatives/friends affected by serious mental illness.
REPORT:
South Dublin Libraries have been delivering a Bibliotherapy programme which promotes, through reading, better mental health and well being for families and children. This programme which was developed in association with Tallaght Hospital is geared towards people experiencing stress and emotional difficulties.
World Mental Health Day occurs on the 10th October next and the County Library will host a series of activities centred on the concept of ‘mindfulness’ aimed at those caring for people with mental illness. Tony Bates, clinical psychologist, has been asked to lead one of the sessions which will be marketed extensively across the County to carers and their families. This is the first in a series of support and information sessions which the Libraries Department will deliver over the next six months to support carers and their families.
