MOTION NO.8

MOTION: Councillor G. O'Connell

That the 3 Tonne Scheme on Kennelsfort Road be adjusted to the area between the N4 and the entrance to Woodfarm Acres and that a further 3 Tonne limit be installed on Wheatfield Road. Taken together these adjustments should ensure that all through traffic for vehicles in excess of 3 Tonnes is excluded while allowing a service route to both the Palmerstown Shopping Centre and Manor Road.

REPORT:

There is a now long established weight restriction in place on the Kennelsfort Road the purpose of which was to protect the Kennelsfort Road area from inappropriate heavy goods vehicles using the area. There are several local origins for heavy traffic and the proportion of heavy traffic is in line with roads of this type in South Dublin County Council.

Recently there has been a reduction in HGV traffic generally, on the Kennelsfort Road a 25% reduction was recorded from 2007 to 2010. It is not therefore recommended that the weight restriction on Kennelsfort Road be modified in the manner suggested.
