COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, June 28, 2011
MOTION NO. 24
MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy
Cathaoirleach's Business
That the Manager would arrange for an examination of graffiti, illegal dumping and other manifestations of anti-social behaviour in Foxborough Estate generally, and particularly in the area between the Foxborough Road Green Space and the Grangecastle Road (formerly the ORR), would bring a report to the Committee of actions/measures being taken or to be taken to counteract the problems and would advise if the Council is working with the Foxborough Maintenance Team.
REPORT:
The local Litter Warden has been in regular contact with local residents in Foxborough, including members of the Residents Association/Maintenance Team, to address issues raised by them including graffiti and littering.
It appears that youths regularly congregate at the end of the open space and these are responsible for a lot of littering (cans/bottles etc.) as well as the graffiti locally. The Council's Graffiti Removal Crew has carried out some graffiti removal while local residents were recently provided with five large buckets of white paint to carry out some painting as well. The estate is regularly patrolled by the Litter Warden but, because of the nature of the litter, it has not been possible to issue fines. Clean ups have been arranged by the Parks Department from the open spaces and shrubbery. The warden will continue to have a presence locally and will liaise with the residents to assist where possible but the wider issue of anti-social behaviour may need to be addressed by the Residents Association in conjunction with the Gardai.
