COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO. 5
MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy
That the Manager would report on consultations with local businesses and interested parties on the proposed Taxi Rank arrangements for Lucan and that he would put a specific proposal to the meeting for adoption.
REPORT:
The Council have met with the Lucan Traders Association. The association is interested that the concerns that they have in relation to the issue of taxi management in the village are included in any proposal. Their favoured option is to provide an evening taxi rank close to, but not on, the Main Street and Dispensary Lane area of the village. The provision of a rank to serve the night time requirements of the village is met with the existing provision, but the need to accommodate the number of waiting taxis in the village requires additional and appropriate space.
A number of options have been considered as follows;
1.0 Existing three spaces with overflow as at present.
2.0 Relocate taxi rank from current position to the east bound side of Lucan Road opposite the village centre ( up hill )
3.0 Provide 3 new taxi spaces outside of the Centra shop to come into effect at 8.00pm and provide for overflow along the Celbridge road in the vicinity of the Allied Irish Bank.
Option 1 is not acceptable to residents, Option 2 could have difficulty in relation to taxis and their orientation.
Item no.3 is the preferred option and it is recommended that the necessary statutory provision be put in place following further local consultation with the business community.
