QUESTION NO. 4
QUESTION: Councillor T. Ridge
To ask the Manager how this Council could allow a funfair to take place on a derelict and dangerous site on the Ninth Lock Road? I was of the opinion that we were dealing with the owner to repair fences and clean the whole site. The Ninth Lock Road looks appalling.
REPLY:
The Planning and Development Act, 2000 requires that notification of intention to hold a funfair be given to the Planning Authority. Planning permission is not required for the holding of such events.
A site meeting was recently held on the site of the former Clondalkin Paper Mills, Ninth Lock Road, Clondalkin, between Council staff and a representative of the owner of the site. The site was deemed to be in a non derelict condition within the definition contained in Section 3 of the Derelict Sites Act, 1990.
However, the owner of the site was instructed to cut back any overgrowth on the site, remove the blue meshing attached to the fencing and remove litter, in order to prevent the site from becoming derelict. This site will be monitored and if the recommended works are not completed, further action may be taken under the Derelict Sites Act, 1990.
