MOTION NO. 20
MOTION: Councillor B. Bonner
That the Manager produces a report outlining work that has been done and needs to be done to reduce the chances of water pipes in Rowlagh Estate freezing this Winter.
REPORT:
After the cold spell early this year, a list of all the houses with frozen services in the Rowlagh Estate was compiled. There were 96 houses on the list of which roughly half were privately owned and the other half were Council houses. The depth of the stopcocks in the public footpaths are being checked and any service that seems to be too shallow will be replaced from the watermain to the boundary wall of the house by the Water Maintenance Section at the correct depth. The Water Maintenance Section has already replaced four services in Rowlagh Crescent and will continue this work throughout the summer and autumn in the Rowlagh Estate as resources are available.
This work may not solve the problem of frozen services in Rowlagh Estate. If the services though the gardens of the houses are too shallow these services will freeze again during the next very cold spell and it is the responsibility of the householders to relay/lower them.
