QUESTION NO. 3

QUESTION: Councillor P. Cosgrave

"To ask the Manager to include in the grass cutting program the green area along the laneway between Idrone transversing Mt Alton towards Delaford?"

REPLY:

Grass cutting operations for the current season have been underway for some months. Under ideal circumstances, the level of service should be a frequency of approximately 10 working days (two weeks) between cuts during the growing season. For the most part, a frequency of 10 - 12 days is now being achieved between cuts although it is acknowledged that in some areas, the frequency is somewhat outside of this range. Local management and staff are working to ensure that, as far as possible, all areas are being cut to a frequency not greater than 15 days. Priority is being given to the cutting of football pitches to ensure that they are available for play.

While the area in question laneway between Idrone transversing Mt Alton towards Delaford is included in the Council’s Grass Cutting Schedule, due to the profile of the small triangular areas of open spaces at this location, it does not currently enjoy the same grass cutting frequency as other areas of priority throughout the county, e.g. football pitches and larger areas of open space.
