MOTION NO. 14
MOTION: Councillor J. Lahart
"That the Manager examine the signing, lining, lanes and junction at Spawell Bridge Road as a number of constituents have complained and raised concerns as to the effectiveness and safety of the existing layout, with particular regard to entering the road from either direction from Firhouse Road."
REPORT:
The junction of Firhouse Road and Spawell Link Road was constructed with the Spawell Link Road scheme. It is proposed to be reconstructed as part of the Knocklyon Road realignment and has not been included in the Quality Bus Corridor scheme.
In order to insure capacity exists for traffic travelling from the Spawell Bridge onto Firhouse Road, either towards Rathfarnham or Firhouse, the current layout was selected. With two lanes from the Spawell Link Road towards Rathfarnham as there is two lanes in that direction on Firhouse Road and one lane for traffic from the Spawell Link Road towards Firhouse. From either direction on Firhouse Road, a single traffic lane is designated to enter the Spawell Link Road and only one lane is required on the Spawell Link Road heading away from Firhouse Road. There is a programme to carry out routine maintenance following the adjacent bus lane works.
