REPLY:

South Dublin County Council is amending and replacing the South Dublin Litter Management Plan 2008 - 2011. The Council invites interested bodies and members of the public to make submissions that will be considered before the making of the Plan.

The overall aim of the Litter Management Plan is to make South Dublin County a litter free County with the support, co-operation and involvement of the local authority, businesses, schools, communities and individuals and the public consultation schedule provided information stands in local shopping centres as follows:

Shopping Centre                         Date                         Time

The Square                                 16th May 2011          2pm – 4pm

Rathfarnham S.C.                       17th May 2011          2pm – 4pm

Knocklyon S.C.                           18th May 2011          2pm – 4pm

Citywest S. C.                            19th May 2011          2pm – 4pm

Lucan – Superquinn                   23rd May 2011          2pm – 4pm

Liffey Valley                               24th May 2011          2pm – 4pm

Mill Centre – Clondalkin               26th May 2011          2pm – 4pm

The public engaged with staff members at these stands and appreciated the accessibility and oppportunity they provided to have a say on litter issues in the County.  It was a different approach and created an alternative mechanism to access people on the subject.  The deadline for submissions is Thursday 9th June 2011, after which a full report on the draft plan and the consultation process will be brought for consideration to a meeting of the Environment SPC on 20th June with the Draft Plan proposed to be brought to the July Council meeting for approval.

A copy of the Draft Plan may be obtained from the Council free of charge at County Hall, Tallaght & Civic Offices, Clondalkin or www.sdcc.ie
