MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

QUESTION NO. 27

QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

To ask the Manager, further to the recent public meeting on May 5th, to update on proposals to cost the option of bringing power into Griffeen Valley Park for a timer-controlled locking mechanism on the pedestrian gate at Griffeen Glen Park/Elm Green and to add posts/boulders at either side of this gate to dissuade speedy approach to the gate by scrambler bikes, etc?

REPLY:

Arrangements are being made to have the pedestrian gate at Griffeen Glen Park / Elm Green locked by the Park Rangers in the evenings and opened in the mornings in line with park opening hours.  This will be undertaken on a trial basis for a period of one month and will be subject to review after this period.  It should be noted that, as the Park Rangers are not based in the park, the gate is likely to remain locked until approximately 10.30am each morning and will be closed approximately 30 minutes before park closing time in the evenings.

Advance notice of the new arrangements including details of the operative dates will be posted on site.

A site meeting will also be arranged with representatives of the Griffeen Action Committee to discuss the entrance details of the pedestrian gate including additional barriers to deter motor vehicles and options relating to the automation of the gate.
