QUESTION NO. 6
QUESTION: Councillor E. Tuffy
To ask the Manager if he will make a report on the infrastructural works (water or sewage) being carried out by the Council in and around Lucan Village and if he can advise what measures are being implemented to reduce traffic disruption and when it is anticipated the works will be completed?
REPLY:
The works being undertaken on Main Street, Lucan and previously in Sarsfield Park Estate are part of the Dublin Region Water Mains Rehabilitation Project where old usually cast iron watermains are replaced as well as the services to individual houses to conserve water by reducing leakage in order to maintain the demand/balance across the region and also to improve the water quality in the mains. This Project is 90% funded by the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government Water Services Investment Programme 2010-2012 under the Capital Works Heading with the remaining 10% being funded by South Dublin County Council. The Traffic Management Plans for this Project have all been agreed with the Roads Department and all local residents and businesses are kept updated and informed as works progresses. The traffic disruptions are mainly confined to closing off parking bays for a couple of days at a time. The work in Lucan should be completed by the end of July 2011.
