MOTION: Councillor E. Higgins

That this Committee commends Kings Hospital School in Palmerston on receipt of their second Green Flag. This Committee recognises the good work carried out by An Taisce’s Green Flag Programme and will support the initiative.

REPORT:

Kings Hospital School have been working on the Green Schools Programme since 2007, receiving their first flag for Litter and Waste in 2008 and their second flag for Energy in January 2011. The efforts of all concerned are acknowledged and appreciated.

Kings Hospital and the 12 other secondary schools in the County that have green flags are to be commended and it should be noted that Secondary School participation in the Green Schools Programme has dramatically increased with 5 schools being awarded their first green flag this year alone.   This is in addition to the great work of Primary Schools with 62 Primary schools now proudly displaying the green flag.
