QUESTION NO. 29
QUESTION: Councillor G. O'Connell
To ask the Manager if any discussions have/are taking place with land owners in the Liffey Valley at Palmerston with a view to acquiring them for public use and/or in connection with securing the boundary of Waterstown Park which appears to be breached in a manner that allows Quad and Motor Bikes gain access to Council lands and to make a statement on the matter?
REPLY:
While the acquisition of additional lands in the Liffey Valley, which would compliment and enhance existing lands in the Council's ownership, is a long term objective, there are no discussions taking place with landowners at present. Significant efforts have been made, both by the Gardaí and Council staff, in the recent past to deter the unauthorised use of motor vehicles in Waterstown Park and this effort will be continued through the coming months. In addition, the draft 2011 Park Bye-laws, currently out on public consultation, contain specific provisions to enhance the powers of the Gardaí in this area. It is hoped to have the new Bye-laws in place by the beginning of August this year.
