MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (2)

Monday, May 23, 2011

QUESTION NO.7

QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney

"To ask the Manager for an update on the prospect of a Skate Park in either of the Tallaght electoral areas, given the inclusion of this as an aim of the Council in the 2010-2016 Development Plan, and to make a statement on the matter?"

REPLY:

The relevant section of the County Development Plan in relation to the provision of skateparks is:

1.3.36.vi Policy SCR54: Skateboard Parks

It is the policy of the Council to continue to provide Skateboard Parks in each Electoral Area within the County. The location and nature of these parks will be developed in consultation with potential users of such facilities, local Councillors and local residents.

One public skatepark has been provided in the county to date – in Griffeen Valley Park in Lucan and it has been an outstanding success.  There is also a public skatepark in Bushy Park in the Dublin City Council administrative area which is accessible to, and frequently used by, the skateboarders in South Dublin.

The provision of further skateparks is dependent on the availability of the necessary finance to do so and at present no funding has been identified to undertake any skatepark projects.  It is intended that should funding become available that the Council will progress the construction of skateparks in the other Regional Parks in the County – in Tymon and Corkagh Parks in particular.
