QUESTION NO. 2
QUESTION: Councillor M. Duff
"To ask the Manager to inform this Committee if there are grants available to Community Centres within the County to assist the Centres in becoming more efficent in their water consumption by upgrading their plumbing systems by installing double flush cisterns and water saving taps?"
REPLY:
There has been some discussion within the Community Services Department in relation to examining what could be done to improve the energy efficiency of our Community Centres, including more efficient use of water. We are liasing with the Architects Department in relation to an energy usage query on one of our new builds, and have asked that the discussion be extended to include water usage, and what improvements are possible.
Many of our newer buildings have got the latest energy efficient technology fitted, but we are very conscious of the fact that many of our buildings date vback to the 1970s and could be much more efficient in their water consumption. The suggestion is a very timely one, when every community building needs to look at its running costs and also needs to be aware of their impact on the environment.
Within our present Community Grants scheme, it is possible to make an application under 1.1c for a grant towards the "Upgrading of a Community Centre."
