MEETING OF RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

QUESTION NO. 4

QUESTION: Councillor P. Cosgrave

"To ask the Manager to give a report on the lack of park maintenance at the Roman Arch in Rathfarnham. There are young trees and ivy growing near and on the Arch. There seems to be no floral landscaping close to the arch and the restored Arch has graffiti on its surface?"

REPLY:

Work on the building conservation of the Roman Arch was undertaken in 2010.  It is planned to prepare a landscape plan to complement this work and that can be undertaken when the resources to do so are secured.  Current maintenance work in this area includes grass cutting and the removal of any vegetation that could interfere with the structure of the building or that detracts from its setting.  Graffiti is removed on a periodic basis from the structure of the building and any graffiti currently defacing its fabric will be removed in the coming weeks.  The area will also be tidied up.
