QUESTION NO. 14
QUESTION: Councillor J. Lahart
"To ask the Manager for an update on the proposed redevelopment of Ballyroan Library including the cost and timescale of the project to include projected commencement and completion date?"
REPLY:
Work on the project for the redevelopment of Ballyroan Library is underway and the project plan for the first phase of the redevelopment has been agreed between the County Librarian, County Architect, project architect and design team. This element of the build involves finalising the detail building design, preparation of the design and tender documentation and the issuing and assessment of tender documents.
This project will go out to tender during the week of the 23rd to 27th May 2011 with a four week period allowed for the receipt of tender submissions. Analysis and selection of the successful contractor will then be carried out prior to the submission of the tender report to the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government in early July for their analysis and comments. On receipt of their approval it is hoped to mobilise the successful contractor with a view to having them on site by the end of August. Library services will then transfer to the adjacent Parish Centre for book based activity and to Whitechurch Library for Wi-Fi and access to online information and resources.
The estimated timescale for the build is currently sixteen to eighteen months with an anticipated completion date of December 2012.
Total construction costs (including VAT) for the redevelopment of the building amount to €3,511,900.
