QUESTION: Councillor M. Devine

To ask the Manager for the policy regarding disposal of small items of hazardous waste from domestic users?

REPLY:

Household hazardous waste such as paints, oils etc. where the substance is clearly identifiable, is accepted at the Council's Civic Amenity. Materials that require specialist handling, treatment and disposal, such as asbestos, cannot be dealt with at a facility such as the Civic Amenity. In disposing of these specialist materials, authorised contractors must be used. 

Information on dealing with domestic hazardous waste, including a list of asbestos disposal contractors, is available to the public on the Council's website.
