MOTION NO 8.

MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

That this Council welcomes the commitment in the Programme for a National Government 2011 to 2016 (Page 27 Reforming local government) to "move many of the functions currently being performed by agencies - such as community employment and enterprise supports - back to local government" and requests the Manager to advise if any discussions have taken place between South Dublin County Council and Government on this commitment, and further if he will present a report on the likely financial and personnel supports which would be required by the Council to implement such a development in its area, and if he will  make a statement on the matter.

REPORT:

No discussions have taken place between South Dublin County Council and Central Government Departments in relation to the transfer of local devlopment and enterprise agencies to the Council.

The Local Development Companies namely CPLN and Dodder Valey Partnerships are currently working on their workplans for the period to 2013 which in accordance with new procedures need to be approved by both the County SIM Group and the County Development Board.

The members will be kept informed in terms of any transfer of functions from these agencies.
