MOTION: Councillor J. Lahart

"That this Committe consider a scheme to assist the householders in the disposal of hazardous waste such as asbestos which is proving extremely costly for householders when disposal arises."

REPORT:

Household hazardous waste such as paints, oils etc. where the substance is clearly identifiable, is accepted at the Council's Civic Amenity. Materials that require specialist handling, treatment and disposal, such as asbestos, cannot be dealt with at a facility such as the Civic Amenity. In disposing of these specialist materials, authorised contractors must be used. Prices charged are determined by the companies that provide service and relate to the complexity and costs associated with the disposal process.

Information on dealing with domestic hazardous waste, including a list of asbestos disposal contractors, is available to the public on the Council's website.
