COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, April 26, 2011
MOTION NO 22.
MOTION: Councillor C. Jones
That this committee reaffirms its commitment to facilitate Esker Educate Together in establishing a permanent school building on a site at Esker Lane. However the committee calls on the manager not to commence a Part 8 to locate a park depot on lands adjacent to Johnsbridge housing estate within Griffeen Valley Park. The committee instead, appeals to the manager to prepare a Part 8 for this depot on council lands south of the railway line. These requests are made with due cognisance of Council policy to locate park depots within regional parks and having regard to the future development in the surrounding area and the extension of this park.
REPORT:
Arising from a request from the Department of Education and Skills to provide a school for Esker Educate Together on the Council's Parks Depot at Esker, a number of sites where examined in the Lucan/Esker area to facilitate the existing depot's relocation.
The Council at its meeting on 13th December 2010 agreed the disposal of the Council's Parks Depot at Esker to the Department of Education and Skills and also noted the proposal to initiate the Part 8 procedure for the relocation of the depot to a site within Griffeen Valley Regional Park, this site being the most suitable from an operational/efficiency point of view. The proposal also facilitated the provision of changing rooms and visitors centre. While this site is still the preferred site and presents the best location for parks services to the communities of Lucan, Esker and North Clondalkin, the Council is aware of substantial opposition to the proposal.
The Council is still committed to facilitating the Department of Education and Skills, subject to the necessary approvals, and as requested is reviewing all option sites including their positive and negative impacts with a view to briefing the Area Members and the Elected Council.
