MOTION NO. 7
MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy
Cathaoirleach's Business
That the Manager would bring an updated report to the Area Committee on progress towards the provision of dedicated Taxi Rank facilities in Lucan Village, as it is now well over one year since the inconvenience and nuisance being experienced by residents along part of Lucan Main Street, on the one hand, and the difficulties experienced by taxi owners in accessing approved rank spaces in the Village was brought to the attention of the Council.
REPORT:
A scheme to provide a taxi rank in Lucan village on the main street (triangle section) in front of the shops was presented to the members for their consideration. The taxi rank is required to accommodate the needs of the taxi users and the residents in the village. The proposal indicated an evening taxi rank in the vicinity of the night time commercial activity in the village.
The proposal also considered the any other needs of this parking area such as loading and the demand for provision of general parking. Currently a single small loading bay is provided. As already provided in other villages it is proposed, as an option, to designate this area as a loading bay for the earlier part of the morning (up to 10am) in order that needs to loading access is better served.
It is recommended that the proposed taxi rank and loading bay scheme is adopted.
