MOTION NO. 11

MOTION: Councillor B. Bonner

That the Manager will take measures to improve the appearance of the area outside Archbishop Ryan School, Balgaddy including addressing the unsightly grass verge outside the school.  Further that the manager will address the disorderly parking that takes place in the same area.

REPORT:

In relation to Archbishop Ryan Senior School the following is the position at the school times

Driver behaviour would appear to be the biggest problem and this matter will be brought to the attention of the school management and the garda authorities.

Improvements are being carried out on the opposite side of Balgaddy Road which will allow pedestrians to walk its entire length. In the near future it is planned to move the school warden from Foxborough Gardens to a point near the school entrance.

This will involve the provision of parking restrictions and dishing of kerbs at the school entrance. It is hoped this will encourage walking to school which is the real answer to the problem. The majority of pupils live within walking distance.

The grass verge is in reasonable condition following the winter and should improve as growth takes up.
