QUESTION NO. 12
QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney
"To ask the Manager to report on the new parking charges in the area under the remit of this Committee, making available any data on numbers of cars parked, permits granted, amounts collected, fines imposed or further details?"
REPLY:
In order to make the most advantageous use of the limited public parking available in the commercial areas of Tallaght and Templeogue the Control of Parking Bye Laws have been adopted.
In line with other areas the stifling effect of uncontrolled free and for the most part all day parking will be removed, resulting in an improvement in turnover of each parking space and consequently the footfall in the village. This strategy is similar to that already implemented in private parking areas locally. The tariff structure has been selected to cover the cost of the management and enforcement of the parking system. For the convenience of traders and their employees for whom frequent use of their cars is a necessity, permits are available at a reduced monthly rate.
It is recognised that Tallaght Village also accommodates a significant number of residents and the resident parking permit system will address their needs. Residents permits and visitor parking permits are available at a nominal annual rate.
To date, 60 permits have been issued in the Tallaght area, 4 of which are commercial permits. 5 Commercial permits have been issued in Templeogue.
Cash collections for Pay and Display tickets issued in the Templeogue area since its commencement in November 2010 to date amount to €10,231.71. 185 fines (penalty charge notices) have been issued.
Pay and Display commenced in the Tallaght area in February of this year and has generated the sum of €2,514.30 in issuing of Pay and Display tickets. 234 fines have been issued here.
